High Press Game

Coaching Objectives

Look for attacking players pressing quickly and aggressively high up the pitch. Once they win possession move at speed to set up chances to score goals. Movement of supporting players is key with attackers splitting defences with good runs beyond the defensive line.

Technique Tips

  • Passing: Emphasize short, crisp passes with the inside of the foot. Players should focus on accuracy and speed to maintain possession.
  • Movement: Encourage players to move off the ball to create space and passing angles. Quick decision-making is key to avoid pressure.
  • Pressing: Teach defenders to press collectively, cutting off passing lanes and forcing the attackers into mistakes.
  • Defensive Transitions: As soon as possession is lost, the passing team should sprint to block the goals and press as a unit to recover the ball.
