2v2+1 (+GK) Technical Game

This is a technical game where players work on positioning, movement and accurate passing aiming to draw defenders away from areas around the penalty area. Triangle and diagonal passing are key to using the overload to beat the defenders

Coaching Objectives

Attack

  • Attackers should make the area wide and long, spread out, to make it difficult to defend.
  • Passes should be accurate to the partner's favoured leg.
  • Move the ball at speed to stop defender recovery.
  • Control the ball when receiving with the leg on the far side of the defender so play is faster.
  • Body position should be side on so movement is quicker.
  • Look for triangles and diagonal passes.

Defence

  • Don't follow attacker, work in pairs to press together
  • Cover passing lines
  • Press to force mistakes and be ready to force dribbling players away from goal.

Drill Setup

  • 20 Mins
  • 11 Players
  • 1 Goals
  • 2 red 4 blue 4 black Bibs
  • 36 x 44 y

What the Players Do

In this 2v2+1 you need back to back penalty areas with a goal and a goalkeeper at one end. Split into teams of two players, so work in pairs with a number 9 that the attacking team use to create…

3v3 Wave game + strikers

5v5+2 small sided game

In this drill players are playing out from the back into wide players with attacks using two extra players to create overloads. Key is good passing and movement and reacting quickly in transition

Coaching Objectives

Attacking

  • Create width and depth to spread the opposition defence out
  • Use quick passing out to the wings and back into the attacking areas
  • Scan shoulders when receiving
  • Crosses from the wide players should create shots on goal
  • Shoot one touch if possible
  • Ready to transition from attack to defence

Transition attack to defence

  • In transition players must quickly close down the opposition to prevent quick movement and shots on goal
  • Close down to block passing routes

Transition Defence to Attack

  • Immediately the ball is won see if a shot is on.
  • Look forward to see if a teammate is in an advanced position and is able to shoot on goal.
  • IF the ball is won movement from team mates is key to keeping possession with a safety pass.
