  • 20 x 20 y

Technique Tips

What the Players Do

Mark out an area, I use 20 x 20 yards with a squad of 12 but you could use any size to fit the numbers in your squad.  Simply split players into two teams and play a possession game. You can…

Switching The Point of Attack

This is a drill that encourages quick passing with one-touch play. Players switch the angle of attack with good passing and support play to find space.

Coaching Objectives

Individual skills are important in tight areas of the pitch with quick passing and one touch play key as is shooting when players spot openings.

Set up with three goals on each side of the area using poles or cones. Split the players into two teams of 7 players and a magic man who plays for the team in possession.

Drill Setup

  • 20 Mins
  • 15 Players
  • 6 Goals
  • 7 Bibs
  • 40 x 30 y

What the Players Do

The two teams of 7 players play a game where they are defending and attacking three goals spread out along the long side of the area. A coach passes a ball to one of the two teams and play commences…

Creative Play From The Wing

There are three ways to attack in this drill, shooting from long range, wingers crossing and attackers positioning as crosses come over.

Coaching Objectives

This is about creating a potent attacking force that gets players to think about where they are attacking and how that attack would look. You need a goalkeeper, an attacker, a defender, 2 midfielders, and 2 wide players.

ATTACKING TIPS

  • Dribble using the leg furthest away from the defender and try to use the outside of the foot
  • Try to take the defender into areas that are more attacking to take the initiative
  • Use feints and skills to create space and give time on the ball
  • Finish on goal as soon as possible
  • Movement is key to keeping the defender at bay
  • Be ready for quick transition if the ball is lost

Drill Setup

  • 25 Mins
  • 7 Players
  • 1 Goals
  • 1 Bibs
  • Half Pitch y

What the Players Do

The drill begins with a long shot from outside the penalty area, then the ball is played to a wide player who links up on the wing for a cross into the box and then a third cross to the far post for…
