Difficulty

Recovery is important when we lose the ball in transition. In training you should use overload situations that give players a good workout when it comes to getting back into position or to delay opponents who have an overload in their favour.

Recovery Runs

It’s important we work on players ability to recover when losing possession, as well as how to deal with the overload. This drill works on both elements.

Coaching Objectives

In this practice players will develop their understanding on how to delay the opposition to allow teammates time to recover.  They will also work on where to recover in order to prevent goal scoring opportunities.  

Drill Setup

  • 20 Mins
  • 7 Players

A dynamic drill that trains defenders to recover quickly and attackers to exploit numerical advantages in a fast-paced transition scenario.

Coaching Objectives

Develop defenders’ recovery runs, positioning, and communication while improving attackers’ decision-making, movement, and finishing in a numerical advantage situation.

Technique Tips

  •  
  • Attackers should make quick decisions, using spacing and movement to exploit overloads.
  • Defenders should recover at full speed and communicate to organize their shape.
  • Encourage attackers to use combination play (one-twos) to break defensive lines.
  • Defenders must focus on delaying rather than diving into tackles to force attackers wide.
