Receiving To Pass Into Attack

Difficulty

In this session players are coached to receive the ball with the back foot on the half turn or open to the play giving them more passing options and utilising the space around them. The key is opening bodies up and keeping heads up.

Receive On the Back Foot

Receiving the ball on the back foot with an open body helps the player to move off in different directions because they can see where the space is on the pitch and where to pass should a team mate be in a better position

Coaching Objectives

Players need to open up their body to the pitch so they can see their opponents and their teammates. With open shoulders player can receive on their back foot which makes it easier to change direction when the receive the ball making it easier to go forward and attack the opposition goal.

Pass, dribble, move

This is a great game for passing dribbling in combination style movement to coach small groups of players in passing and receiving and dribbling the ball. Used in areas like the penalty area with quick play.

Coaching Objectives

We want to see quick and accurate combination play passing the ball with good movement to follow the pass. Use different passes, fast ones to the receiving foot or pass to the players other foot to see how they can receive the ball and turn and move away. Anticipation and awareness are also key.

This small-side game helps you to improve the vision and awareness of your players when they are looking to pass a through ball behind the defence. Passes of this type help to create more goalscoring chances for your strikers.

Coaching Objectives

Players must learn to play with their heads up or to look up as often as possible. This helps them to spot openings to play through passes.

Communication to team mates and good passes into space for them to run onto is key to this game.

Players out of possession must be constantly on the move to create space to receive a pass.
