Movement and Build Up Play In Attack

Difficulty

Movement in attacking areas is key to your team scoring more goals. Players need to pass and move and when they are looking to get on the end of a cross into the box they must time their attacking runs so they meet the ball.

Coaching Objectives

Combination play is important when teams are attacking the goal – they need intelligence on the ball and with supporting players so they can keep possession and move into dangerous areas of the pitch. It is also an area where creative play can be devastating to opponents.

What the Players Do

In this drill you need to use an area 40 x 30 yards with a goal and a goalkeeper. You also need a server to feed the attackers. Three players must move constantly and then complete three passes…

Movement to Cross and Finish

Use this drill to get players to make attacking runs into the wide areas of the pitch and crossing the ball into the penalty area. The accuracy of the crosser is important with more than one target to aim for. Timing of runs are key.

Coaching Objectives

This drill gets players to arrive in the penalty area at the right time to score goals. Play builds up on the wings and you need your attackers to anticipate the ball being crossed rather than waiting for it which makes it easier for the defending team. Wingers can use a variety of different crosses from different angles along the wing.
