Difficulty

This session gets players to be creative with overloads when teams are attacking – they use creativity to keep possession and to set up goal scoring chances. The three parts of the session work in waves with lots of repetition of the coaching point.

Coaching Objectives

The attacking team should look to create overloads either out wide on one of the wings for through the middle. Encourage them to drive into the space to create the depth that gives them more attacking threat. Movements of players without the ball is key to keeping possession and creating goal scoring chances. Movement when the cross or through ball come in are the vital elements of the coaching advice.

Without the ball the defending team must try to press hard and counter attack quickly when they win the ball. Lots of opportunities to exploit space with four goals.

This is all about using creativity to keep possession. The aim is for the possession team to move the ball from one end zone to the other and then back again the other way in a wave type motion. This is working towards penetration in the final third.

Coaching Objectives

Good reaction in transition with speed of play to press and stop the defending team using the ball to score a goal. Creativity is key with players with movement and combination play key to keeping the ball.

Look for:

  • Good passing and receiving
  • Movement to create angles and triangles
  • Combination play with give and go passing, overlapping and underlapping runs and takeovers.
