Coaching Objectives

Runs into the penalty area to support the player with the ball involve speed, changes of direction and bursts of energy.

For this drill you need an area 25 x 20 yards, with a goal at one end and two five yard channels at the other end. You need 7 players and a server, balls, bibs, cones and a goal.

Technique Tips

  •  
  • Central attackers: Open body to receive, play quick one-touch passes, and disguise final ball.
  • Channel attackers: Time runs perfectly to avoid offside; explode forward at full speed.
  • Finishers: Keep head over the ball, finish low and early—don't overhit the shot.
  • Communication between players is key—early calls and visual signals help the final ball succeed.

This session is structured to allow players multiple opportunity to practice their combination play and finishing within the 18-yard box.

Coaching Objectives

This activity will work on players ability to apply their creativity and attacking skills within the 18-yard box. With smaller players numbers it allows players repeated opportunities for shots on goals and to express themselves.

Attacking principles can be applied throughout at the coach’s discretion, however there will be plenty of chances for one v one attacking situations, as well finishing opportunities.
