Movement to Receive

Coaching movement is not about using lots of equipment it is about engaging your players to making short, sharp moves with good body position to receive the ball including timing of runs

Coaching Objectives

To coach movement we are looking to work with the ball to improve speed of play, weight of the pass, accuracy and movement to receive the ball. This includes body positions and dribbling with the ball at pace. Look for players putting in the effort to get to the next position and be looking for the next pass.

Coaching Objectives

Runs into the penalty area to support the player with the ball involve speed, changes of direction and bursts of energy.

Drill Setup

  • 7 Players

  • 2 Bibs
  • 25 x 20 y

Technique Tips

  •
  • Central attackers: Open body to receive, play quick one-touch passes, and disguise final ball.
  • Channel attackers: Time runs perfectly to avoid offside; explode forward at full speed.
  • Finishers: Keep head over the ball, finish low and early—don't overhit the shot.
  • Communication between players is key—early calls and visual signals help the final ball succeed.
  •

What the Players Do

Play 4 attackers against 2 defenders and a goalkeeper. Set up with two attackers against two defenders in the main area, the other two attackers are in the second channel. The two attackers in the…

Rondo: Play Into A Striker

This Rondo drill is all about passing and receiving with striker movement off the ball to create space for the pass. Movement and passing should be forward with combination play set up to achieve that goal.
