This is a technical game where players work on positioning, movement and accurate passing aiming to draw defenders away from areas around the penalty area. Triangle and diagonal passing are key to using the overload to beat the defenders

Coaching Objectives

Attack

  • Attackers should make the area wide and long, spread out, to make it difficult to defend.
  • Passes should be accurate to the partner's favoured leg.
  • Move the ball at speed to stop defender recovery.
  • Control the ball when receiving with the leg on the far side of the defender so play is faster.
  • Body position should be side on so movement is quicker.
  • Look for triangles and diagonal passes.

Defence

  • Don't follow attacker, work in pairs to press together
  • Cover passing lines
  • Press to force mistakes and be ready to force dribbling players away from goal.
