In this 7v7 to 9v9 transition players work in Rondo games to keep possession under pressure looking to win the ball and play short passes to secure possession and turn defence into attack

Coaching Objectives

Attacking

  • Speed of ball

  • Exploit opening of defensive block/balance

Defending

In this drill players are funnelled into the attacking third with overloads in favour of the attacking team. Players must link up to use the overload and create goal scoring chances.

For your 7v7 to 9v9 move this season this game uses a funnel shape for the attacking team to exploit overloads and get behind or find gaps in the opposition defence. Look for lots of shots on goal and for success in overload situations.

Coaching Objectives

Attacking

  • Shift defenders from side to side
  • Pull defence out of block
  • Unbalance defence
  • Pass to feet or space behind
  • Runs in behind
  • One and two touch play
  • Fast reaction on transition.

 

Defending
