7v7 to 9v9: 3v3 Scoring Zone

This game gives players lots of problems to solve in a 3v3 game with four goals - can I switch play, can I move into positions to make it easier to receive, can I play a through ball.

Coaching Objectives

Coaches should be looking for

  • Movement to create space for individuals and team mates -
  • Draw play to one side & exploit space created on the other by switching play
  • Control speed of ball
  • Combination play to keep possession and set up goals

7v7 to 9v9 Tactics: corridors

This tactics session for the 9v9 game splits the pitch into three parts so players can see which corridor they should go in when in or out of possession with a 6v6 game to help focus the idea

Coaching Objectives

On a tactics board show players the three ‘corridors’ That they should think about when attacking or defening.

Spend some time explaining that when out of possession look to defend in two corridors in relation to the position of the ball and when in possession use all three corridors.

Use the 6v6 small-sided game to cement the ideas and look for your players using the tactic to defend and attack much better.
