Watch this coaching video direct from Cupello's partner Felipe Ragel in Barcelona, Spain showing how to block or intercept a shot from the edge of the penalty area in a series of 1v1s

One of the best ways to block or intercept a shot is to minimize the space between defender and the attacker. If the defender moves to stay in the shooting line, they will not be able to get a good shot off or if they do it will hit the defender.

Marcelo Bielsa, Jorge Sampaoli and Diego Simeone all work on blocking shots during practice.

First 1v1 block shot to goal

  • The defender cannot pass the white line.
  • The objective inside the area is to intercept or block
  • The attacker can feint up to 3 times and only hit one ball

Second 1v1 block shot to goal

  • The defender cannot pass the white line.
  • The objective inside the area is to intercept or block
  • The attacker has 4 seconds to create an angle to shoot and score

Third 1v1 block shot to goal

  • The defender cannot pass the white line.
  • The objective inside the area is to intercept or block
  • The attacker can get into the area and has 4 seconds to create an angle to shoot and score
