Goalkeepers should b square to the ball, trunk bent slightly forward, knees are bent for mobility, balance on the balls of the feet with hands ready to make the save.

Full concentration until the danger has been cleared. Be aware of where the ball is and don't let it out of your sight. Quick footwork to move as much of your body behind the line of the ball as possible, then move towards the ball to gather it safely.

Be aware of the position you are in in relation to the goal behind you.

Play out from the back whenever possible or play into a midfielder who has found space if your defenders are facing a high press.

Be in close touch with your defenders at all times and talk to them and call them into position if they are not in the right place at corners, goalkicks etc

Moving to be in the best position to save a shot from a striker who can go left or right from behind a mannequin as an element of surprise.

Coaching Objectives

Keepers should always be aware of where the ball is and where it is going to come from moving quickly to cover shots taken from either side of the goal.

Set up a mannequin 5 yards from goal and a server behind the mannequin with few balls.
