Coaching Objectives

1. Body Position:

  • Stand with your non-kicking foot (the standing leg) next to the ball.
  • Keep your body over the ball for balance and control.
  • Maintain an upright posture with your chest facing the target.

2. Foot Placement:

  • Use the inside of your foot for a lofted pass. The inside of the foot provides better accuracy and control compared to the instep, which is commonly used for ground passes.
  • To make a lofted pass, the contact point on the ball should be slightly below the center. This creates the necessary backspin to keep the ball airborne.

Execution:

  • As you swing your kicking leg, ensure that your toes are pointed downward.
  • Approach the ball with a slightly open stance (your non-kicking foot should be positioned slightly to the side).
  • Swing your kicking leg with a smooth and controlled motion, striking the ball cleanly in the center of the inside of your foot.

3. Follow-Through:

  • After striking the ball, allow your foot to follow through in the direction of your target.
  • The follow-through should be high and smooth, creating the desired loft on the pass.

4. Weight of the Pass:

  • The amount of force applied determines the height and distance of the lofted pass. A softer touch creates a higher, shorter pass, while more power will result in a longer and lower trajectory.

5. Target and Vision:

  • Maintain focus on your intended target throughout the motion.
  • Adjust your body positioning and the angle of your foot to direct the pass accurately to your desired location.
