Enhance your dribbling skills with this dynamic solo drill focusing on step overs, a fundamental move in soccer.

Coaching Objectives

How to do a step over.

  1. Approach the Ball: Approach the ball at a comfortable pace, with your dominant foot slightly ahead of the ball.
  2. Execute the Feint: As you approach the ball, use your non-dominant foot to step over the ball, swinging it around the front of your body.
  3. Shift Your Weight: Shift your body weight onto your non-dominant foot as you perform the step over, using it to pivot and create the illusion that you're going to play the ball in one direction.
  4. Sell the Feint: Use your shoulders and hips to sell the feint, making it appear as though you're about to change direction or pass the ball in the direction opposite to where you're actually going.
  5. Push the Ball: After completing the step over, quickly push the ball with the outside of your dominant foot in the opposite direction of the feint, accelerating away from the defender.
  6. Maintain Balance: Throughout the move, keep your body low and balanced to maintain control and ensure a quick change of direction.
  7. Practice: Practice step overs repeatedly to build confidence and fluidity in executing the move in different situations on the field.
