Defenders Support Each Other

Defending the two types of goal means the players must be open to support each other and make sure no gaps are evident in the areas that attackers can exploit.

All passes are along the ground so look for gaps in the defence and pass through to open up the pitch to attacks.

Pressing is key to getting attacks away from danger zones.

Player skills are important so focus on positioning, movement and decision making. Keep an eye on the way players are passing and the speed at which the ball is circulating. Attackers need to either support the passes underneath to receive a pass, or they need to support ahead of the ball to open passing lanes.

One team closes space in defence and one team closes space in midfield. To coach it you need players to block passing routes and fill holes when defenders leave the space. Make it hard for opponents to penetrate.
