A directional possession game developing scanning, combination play, support angles and intelligent use of outer players to complete eight passes.
Coaching Objectives
Develop players' ability to maintain possession under pressure while recognising and exploiting the extra space and passing options provided by the outer players.
The practice encourages players to:
- Scan before receiving.
- Create passing angles.
- Play through, around and away from pressure.
- Use the outer players intelligently.
- Move to support the ball.
- Receive with an open body shape.
- Combine quickly in the inner area.
- Recognise when to switch the point of attack.
- Use width to create space centrally.
- Play with appropriate speed and accuracy.
- Complete eight passes through intelligent possession rather than simply passing for the sake of retaining the ball.
